I have etc. to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 279 of the 15th of July last and to inform

you that H.M. will not be advised to exercise his power of disallowance in respect of Ordinance No. 9 of 1921, entitled "

an Ordinance to facilitate the enforcement

in the Colony of Maintenance Orders made in England

or Ireland and vice versa, and to declare the application

of the Karried Women (Desertion) Ordinance, 1900, and to

amend the said Ordinance. "#$799967)1931.

I am advised, however, that the Ordinance provides for reciprocity only with England and Ireland, and does not contain as it might a provision on the lines of Section 12 of the Imperial Act for the extension of the Ordinance to maintenance orders made in another Colony or Protectorate or Dominion which may hereafter be willing to enter into reciprocal relations with Hong Kong in the matter. In view of the

of British-administered territories in the Far East it would seem desirable to establish such reciprocity and, if you concur in that view, the provision to be added to the Ordinance should be on the following lines:-
